Thursday's Things in a Row

For this week's Things in a Row, I thought I'd go with a theme - the Civil War. (YOU don't have to!)

The battle photos are from a re-enactment of the Civil War in Princeton, IL, called "Shadows of the Blue and Gray", taken a few years ago. The cannon photo is from Vicksburg, MS Military Park. Click to enlarge any one of them.

The above photos were RE-ENACTMENTS. But these gravestones are FOR REAL. There were over 625,000 soldiers killed in the Civil War, more than ANY OTHER WAR so far.

Natchez, MS

Keokuk, IA

Natchez Trace, MS
Carnton Plantation, Franklin, TN

What do you have for this week's Things in a Row?

Great photos Pat, the graveyards are a rather somber reminder of the reality of war. I have been to Canton Plantation, it is beautiful.

It always surprises me when I hear, again, how many died in our Civil War. My grandfather (dad's dad) fought in it, can you believe it? He was young, but still. How many people do you know who can say that? He was born in 1847 and was 70 when my dad was born in 1917. My dad was 40 when I was born in 1956. In fact, my dad's sister, Auntie Sue, lived until 2003, and that meant that in three generations, my ancestors touched four centuries. Her and my dad's grandfather was born in the 1700s.

:-)

Thanks so much for caring for my friend Susie. She is surrounded by friends, including new ones like you, and I know it helps in this terrible time.

Wow! These are certainly a sobering reminder of a time when the nation was torn apart. As we have been getting closer to 9/11, I have been thinking more of the trips to NYC and ground zero.

I was just roaming yesterday after doing the laundry and came across an interesting Civil War item locally which I will be posting soon.

You have a great eye and are very creative. It has given me a new perspective on items I see. :)

I love the horses!

Hi Pat. I found you though Gail. Thought I would join in this week and give Thursday's Things in a Row a try. Gail assures me it is addicting...lol.

Love your photos! I am fascinated with the Civil War era!

I adore your pictures this week.
This is gonna sound weird, but I really like cemeteries. They're so pretty and dramatic.

I love the reenactment photos! You had Underground Railroad quilts and now the reenactment. Pretty cool stuff. The grave markers are more than a bit sobering though.
