C is for Cadillac Ranch

My husband, Jim, and I traveled this great country of ours for SEVEN years in our RV. We saw many wonderful sights, visited famous and not so famous cities, and wandered through many a National Park. I have blogged through all our travels. I've stumbled upon the "Blogging from A to Z Challenge 2013". I decided to jump on board this crazy train and share with all of you places I have seen in my travels.

Day Three of "Blogging from A-Z Challenge"!

"C" is for Cadillac Ranch

Cadillac Ranch is located right off of Interstate 40 a few miles west of Amarillo, Texas. What exactly IS Cadillac Ranch, you may ask? No, it's not a restaurant. If one would take it literally, it would be a ranch of Cadillacs. And one would be correct. But these Cadillacs are buried nose-deep in dirt out in a pasture.

Sponsored by Sam Marsh 3 (he does NOT like Roman Numerals), described as an eccentric philanthropist, artist and prankster millionaire.

Notice the spray can lying on the ground. I'm sure that these cars have been painted many times over since I took these photos back in 2006!

Notice the tumbleweed behind the car. A common sight on the open fields of the Southwest.

What you see from the road - if you didn't know they were there, you might miss them! Seriously! There is  a frontage road that runs past them, then Interstate 40, so you could easily drive right past these crazy upside-down cars!

Visit some of the other blogs also going through the A-Z challenge.

That is awesome. You are my kind of traveler. My husband and I will go an hour out of our way to see some obscure, little known attraction. I would love to stumble upon something like this.

Now this is something I have seen along 1-40. It is easy to miss if you don't know the mile marker. Which I don't.

Fun! We will have to put this on our list while we are in TX. We plan to go over to Lubbock and Portales NM sometime while down there, so we will be going past. Writing it down! :)

This is an odd one!

I don't think we could ever get away from graffiti. They are very colorful and I suspect in a way the paint actually helps preserve the cars.
It's fun seeing where you've been Pat.

I think I heard of that place. Didn't they do a Cadillac Stonehenge there?

I've never been to Texas...Wait, no, I have. It was so brief, though...
