Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Sorry I've been MIA this past week - I went home to IL to visit my family. In a nutshell, here's a quick version of my two weeks.

I flew into Chicago O'hare Airport. I didn't get patted down, nor felt up by anyone.

And no one from TSA seemed interested, either.

I didn't have to stand in a see-through room and have my "junk" x-rayed. I guess they didn't want the TSA person to take sick leave after viewing the screen.

I saw a LOT of that white, powdery stuff while I was in town.

I'm talking SNOW.

It snowed ALL day on Christmas Eve at my daughter's house. She got about 5 inches of snow.

It snowed ALL night on Christmas at my sister's house (lake effect snow off of Lake Michigan). She got 8 inches of snow.

I was HAPPY to see all the snow.

Of course, I didn't pick up one shovel. Not a one.

I took a train down to my daughter's house and spent the week. It was great being with my grand daughter, Lily. Oh, and of course, my daughter and son-in-law! *wink*

I got my animal fix.

My daughter has 2 dogs and 3 cats.

My sister has 2 dogs.

My brother has 2 dogs.

I came home pretty hairy. And I'm talking besides my legs.

I borrowed my brother's truck to get a few places; particularly my doctor's appointment.

That was fun. (read that with heavy sarcasm.)

I've slept on 2 different couches, a bed, and a bunk bed (bottom bunk!)

My bed never felt so good.

Apparently when Jim said I snore, he wasn't kidding. Everyone commented on my snoring.

Yeah. Yeah.

So I snore.

Shut up.

But I guess it's pretty bad.

Even my little great niece, Arielle, who is 7 and slept on the top bunk, had something to say. The conversation when like this.

"I could hardly sleep, you snore so LOUD!" Arielle said.

"Well, every time I was awake, you were sleeping," I replied.

"Yeah," she said, "because you were AWAKE!"

She's too smart for her own good.

So I mentioned my sleeping/snoring problem to my doctor. We've talked about sleep apnea before.

I really don't want to go for the test. I'd have to sleep overnight in a lab, hooked up to wires and such so they can monitor my heart rate, oxygen intake, etc. If that's not bad enough, what about the whole, "I-gotta-get-up-and-pee-in-the-middle-of-the-night-scenario?"

I mentioned this to the doctor.

"So, they unhook you. Big deal. Listen, lady, this is what you HAVE to do!"

I know it, but it doesn't mean I'm going to have to LIKE it!

You KNOW this is going to be a post in and of itself!

So, anyway, I had a fun-filled, cold 2 weeks away from AZ. Jim survived and managed to clean up our place just in time for my arrival.

No "felt up" incidents on the way back to Phoenix, either. Geez, what's a woman got to do to get attention?

It is 42 degrees here in AZ today. Is this a joke or what? It actually is warmer in Chicago today.

You heard me. It was 52 there today. And I left. Humph.

I have more to tell you all from my trip. Stay tuned.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.

Happy New Year!

Hairy - huh? My husband bought me an electric razor for my legs. Think that was a hint? I'm thinking he did it more for safety so I don't fall while balancing on one leg to shave the other.
I am so happy you had an uneventful trip as far as no travel problems or sickness. As usual, we will look forward to all your adventures in 2011. Happy New Year!

LOL - i knew i was missing my daily humor fix! glad you're back; sorry you missed out on the new TSA regs.

ron uses a bi-pap and it has made a world of difference in his snoring and sleep quality. i'm worried about needing to go in for the test, too. not because i don't want to be hooked up to wires, but because i don't know that i could wear one of those masks on my face all night. ugh!

I let the hair on my legs grow during the winter, it helps keep my socks up. No, really. I pull the little hairs through the socks and tie them in knots.

Try it.

I snore, too. I'm sure that's what is going on with me... the whole apnea thing.

Not sure if I care enough to do something about it just yet.

Welcome home, happy new year!!

Hubby has sleep apnea; he had the test and has had a CPAP machine (Continuous Positive Air Pressure) for about 15 years. He sleeps like a baby and doesn't snore at all anymore. I snore, but I don't believe I have sleep apnea. He used to wake up, toss, sit up frequently during the night. I wake up once or twice to go pee and that's it. Just because you snore, doesn't necessarily mean you have apnea.

Sounds like a delightful holiday...I think I did read something in the Chicago paper about your snoring.

Happy New Year!

I'm glad you had some wonderful visits.

Listen Pat, my mom, my uncle and two of my brothers have all done the sleep clinic. And they all said the very same things: you'd be amazed at how well you sleep in those clinics and the various masks they wear now, have been life changing. They all talk about how well rested they are, how they didn't realize how tired their sleep apnea was actually making them.

Do it. You won't regret it and your health will thank you.

Pat,
That was a hoot. You are a comedy writer for sure.
Glad you got around to the important places and happy for you that you could go back to AZ while we are still stuck here in Ohio with, I'm sure, snow coming again before long.
More on your travels, please.
Barb, a fan...

You are so funny!

If I have to endure flying, I expect to at least get felt up!

OMG I'm glad you're back and in such fine form too. Snow? Tell me about it... as if I don't know from personal experience. Right now a journey to a hot place would suit me down to the ground. About the snoring ... I can see a whole host of funny posts coming soon. Wishes for a happy New Year seem appropriate!

I'm back too, the holidays got a 'little' busy. Sorry the TSA guys ignored you, maybe next trip you'll at least get a pat down.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you both Pat! I always say we go to visit our grandkids (and their parents)..... hope it warms up at your house pretty soon. We had a week of really cold when we first got to FL, but we have our Florida weather back again now.

Hahhahahahahhaha...oh Pat, you HAVE to take the sleep study test!! You just HAVE TO!! It will be hilarious!! I did it (see both my posts ..I had to do two on my purple Disccvering The Purpose Of Our lives blog). It is really not that bad. The beds are comfortable and the staff are very hospital and accomodating. If you have to go pee, you unhook and go or buzz the staff and they zip in and uphook you. All the wires hook into a small square, so it is easy to unhook. Everyone else is in the same boat, so no worries...

Just LOVE hearing about your adventures!!
