Signs - Shh!

We recently rode the Metra train to and from Chicago. On our ride home, the conductor walked into our train car announcing, "This is  a quiet car! Collecting tickets!" I thought he was just making a comment about how quiet it was on the train. Apparently he wasn't kidding. I saw this sign as we were getting off the train.

I guess when people put in a hard day at work (or shopping!) the last thing they want to hear is a crying baby or kids fighting or loud music. It's a good thing I didn't fall asleep or I'd have gotten kicked off with my loud snoring!

Oh my, THAT is the train car I want to ride in! How nice that must be after answering telephones all day, etc.

About my sign, you asked if it was original or made to look distressed. I believe it is original as the building looks pretty old, but I truly have no way of knowing.

This is a great find! I take the train to work everyday, I would endorse this to our transit system! (hehehe, I snore too)

That's such a great idea! The last time I rode a train was from Portland to Boston and there were a couple of annoying noisy kids across the aisle from me. The trip seemed to take forever!

Apparently these kind of cars are getting common for commuter trains. There was a news story not long ago about a woman who got arrested after refusing to put away her cell phone in a quiet car. She didn't actually get arrested for the cell phone it was the way she reacted when asked to be quiet.

I remember the story SquirrelQueen refers to; it went viral because someone took a video... and it started a wide-spread debate about manners and privacy. I've long seen Quiet cars on the train from Kowloon (HK) to the border of China, but I never really thought about what that meant other than no blaring TV screens. I often take it.

How fun to go to Chicago on a train. Usually the only way I see Chicago is from the car window when we pass by going to Wisconsin to see our daughter.
Maybe someday!
I love that there is a quiet car, esp for the trip home. Sounds good to me.

Hahaha Pat your post and narrative always makes me smile. I like to try riding on a tree from Michigan to Chicago that would be a lot of fun. ^_^ Thanks for the visit.
