Sunday Bridges - Red Covered Bridge

Those "dots" you see in the sky are not birds, but leaves that have fallen off the trees and caught up in the wind.

This beautiful wooden bridge was originally built in 1863 and spans 149 feet over the Big Bureau Creek in Princeton, IL. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Sunday Bridges - Little White Bridge

I found this cute little bridge in Ottawa, IL at Hank's Farm Restaurant/Curious Goods Store. We stopped at the store so my daughter could look for a Halloween costume.

We entertained our granddaughter by going outside to see all the animals walking around on the farm: chickens, turkeys, peacocks, and sheep.

Papa and Lily took a walk on the bridge.

This sweet little bridge can be found in a campground that we stay at during the summer months in Northwestern Illinois. The bridge is over one of the canals that runs from the 8-acre lake.

Little stone bridge found in a fancy-shmancy subdivision filled with Mcmansions. I don't think my "candominium" (a.k.a. fifth wheel) would fit in here!

Sunday Bridges - Bessey Pedestrian Bridge

This 242 foot pedestrian bridge spans the Middle Loup  River and can be found in the Nebraska National Forest. Please click on the photo to enlarge.

Sunday Bridges - Jefferson Avenue Footbridge

The Jefferson Avenue Footbridge, built in 1902, is located in Lebanon, Missouri. The St Louis-San Franciso Railway was concerned for the people who would cross the railroad tracks to get to the businesses on Commercial Street and thus the bridge was built. Click to enlarge the photo.

The bridge spans 562 feet from one end to the other, making it one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the country.

I could imagine how dangerous it would be to cross this train yard with 13 railroad tracks!

Sunday Bridges - Samson of the Cimarron

This is the Samson of the Cimarron, a 1,269 foot railroad bridge that spans the Cimarron River, located 13 miles north of Liberal, Kansas. It was built in 1939, replacing 3.5 miles of curves and areas of frequent flooding, by raising the tracks 113 feet above the riverbed. This bridge was considered an engineering marvel of its day.
