Those "dots" you see in the sky are not birds, but leaves that have fallen off the trees and caught up in the wind. |
This beautiful wooden bridge was originally built in 1863 and spans 149 feet over the Big Bureau Creek in Princeton, IL. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
This is a close up of the sign that hangs above the entrance of both sides of the bridge. (click to enlarge)

I love old covered bridges and also the signs that remind us of life in times past.
That's a great old sign on that bridge!
What a wonderful bridge. The red looks so nice against the blue sky.
Love your header, it's like the 'March of the Pumpkins' :)

I would love to visit some covered bridges someday. I like your new header!!
The covered bridge reminds me of The Bridges of Madison County. I read the sign and got a chuckle about the amount of animals allowed to be led across the bridge at one time.
Fascinating, especially the sign. We don't have any covered bridges (that I know of) in Australia.
Lovely bridge!
Pat...genie here. Thanks for the comment. That was a pretty cool bridge. I adore this red covered one. We have only one in our area that I know about. I try to post shots of it each year. Thet are such wonderful bits of history . Genie
I love, love, love it. We had one near the town in upstate NY where I grew up. However, a flood took it out with one of the bad storms.
Lovely...we need more covered bridges!
