How Rude!

Here's a question for you.

Why do people have to be RUDE?

Does it make them feel better, I wonder?

The other day Jim and I went to library. The branch that we normally go to was closed due to a burst water pipe, so we went to the main library. We were unsure of where items such as the new fiction, mysteries, science fiction were placed. We split up and wandered around, then met back up before checking our items out. I found the section for new Sci-Fi books and wanted to show Jim, so I said, "Here, Hon, I found the Science Fiction books," and stepped over to the bookcase. Unbeknown to me, a woman was standing about 5 feet away from that bookcase and looking at the books.

Which means I stepped right in front of her.

This pissed her right off.

"HOW RUDE!" She exclaimed.

I whipped around and said, "Oh, I'm sorry!" and quickly stepped back out of the way.

She didn't leave it at that.

"WELL I WAS STANDING RIGHT HERE!" She bellowed.

I said, "I'm SORRY! I didn't SEE you!"

Geez, Louise, I didn't know if this woman wanted me to kiss her feet or what, but I thought my first apology was enough.

Now if I were looking at some books, and someone stepped in front of me, first of all, I'd probably not say ANYTHING and just move over a bit, but IF, just IF I got up enough nerve to say SOMETHING, I MIGHT squeak out a little "excuse me".

This lady wanted an all out battle. And which one of us was rude?

************************************************************************

Our resort park has numerous activities throughout the month; some are free, but the majority we have to purchase tickets in advance. The Saturday night dance tickets are hot commodities. Tickets go on sale the first Monday of each month at 8:00 am. We get in line at 5:00 AM!

Can you believe it?

And it's not like we're seeing the Rolling Stones or anything!

But, actually, the time goes by fast, and it's kind of fun to sit there with the other crazy people. This year they put a limit on how many tickets each site could buy: 4. (Last year we could buy 10 tickets, or a whole table.) So this means more of us have to get up early to buy the tickets for our gang.

Four of us met at 5:00 am in front of the locked building. We were first in line! Yes!

At 5:15 more people joined us. One man asked if we had asked the security guard to open up the doors. No one had. So he volunteered to walk down and do that. He returned and said that the guard would open the doors at 5:30 a.m.

At 5:20, an older woman, Phyllis, joined us. But before coming to the front of the building, she tried the side entrance and got in the building! We had been standing out in the cold for 20 minutes! We didn't think to try the side door since the front doors were locked and the lights were off.

We all rushed in and took our seats along the hallway. (The Activities Center is used to the line-up so they have folding  chairs set up for the crowd.)

At 5:30 the security guard came rushing in with his nose bent all out of shape.

"How did you get in here?" He yelled.

"The door was unlocked," Phyllis replied.

"That's BULL!" He yelled, stomping towards the doors, "I locked them myself last night!" He fiddled with the door and said, "They're STILL locked!"

Phyllis was trying to tell him that she got in the other door, not the one he was touching, but he wouldn't listen.

I thought he was going to frisk us all or something.

One could only hope.

I mean, seriously, we're a bunch of old people sitting on chairs. What the heck are we going to do?

HOW RUDE!

Fast forward a couple of hours.

We're still waiting for the office to open.

Most of us are still sitting in chairs. Other people are coming and going in the large ballroom behind us and setting up for the Country Store, which opens at 9:00 a.m.

My friend was standing in the hallway talking to someone.

This lady comes barreling down the hallway, she passes my friend up and yells, "GET OUT OF MY WAY!"

Excuse me?

There was room to get around my friend. This woman was just RUDE!

I sat there with my mouth hanging open.

Another woman standing near me said, "Did you hear that?"

I shook my head "yes".

She said, "I wonder who shit in HER cornflakes this morning!"

Then she followed her into the ballroom and confronted her! Yikes!

"Were you talking to ME like that?" She challenged.

"No - the other woman standing in the hallway."

So - she meant my friend.

Old people sure are grumpy.

Remind me not to get old.

Wait, aren't I already?

There is NO NEED for RUDENESS, people. Let's share a little love, okay?

  1. That is unbelievable!
Cannot stand people that are just rude, disrespectful, etc. I especially hate it when they do it they claim they are religious or have a great culture.
You can't change people and there will always be people like this. Don't waste your time and energy on them. You need to brush it off and ignore them.

  2. Some people are pig ignorant. I hate rudeness but do use a little sarcasm when someone is rude to me simply because I find it hard to ignore them. There's too much rage in the world.

  3. Rudness comes easy to some people...I have to work at it.

We just have to feel sorry for them sometimes, they must have a horrible life to be so inconsiderate.

  4. Sounds to me like SHE was the one who was rude! I usually just quietly creep in front of people in the library, or I mutter a very quiet "excuse me". I've never had any problems, but you never know...I woud have been like you and answered her with sarcasm! :-)

  5. I hate it if you open a door or hold a door open for them they just barrel through with out a thankyou or thanx, thats when I pip up and say some thing, I despize rude people and I am the type to tell them whats what ! if I need to reach infront of someone to get something I always say excuse me please or sorry could I just nip in there or grab that, then if they comply I always say thanx or have a good day and if they dont I will wait till they move but if they give me a rude reaction I will flip on them and I have made some people walk away thinking about it ! Have a good day !

  6. People are becoming ruder as as the days go by. What's that about.
I try to be kinder to make up for all the rudeness but by the end of the day my kindness starts to dry up, you know. Old people especially have every reason to be kind. Old people/me/we may need help from someone one of these days.
Be well and smile. Rude people old and young are here to stay.
    Blessings.

  7. The other day I was in line at the supermarket, a woman walked up behind me holding a couple of items. My basket was about half full, so I offered her to go ahead of me...not only didn't she say thank you but turned around and beckoned to her daughter, who had a full basket, and yelled, "Come on Becky."
I really don't handle rude people very well!

  10. Can you imagine having to live with those rude people 24/7? So sorry that their unhappiness spilled over into your fun times.

  11. I think for some people rudeness is easier than being polite. To be polite, one has to care about his/her fellow man. That caring doesn't exist for those people.

  12. It's fear and anger all bottled up, I think. Most people like to think of themselves as more important than anyone else - these "ladies" are prime examples. You are much nicer than I am. I would have probably said something like "Excuseeee Meeeee?"

    I'm working on that...

  14. You just wonder how someone gets through life acting like that. I could never imagine being so bold!

The other day while I was in Target some young woman got after me when I didn't understand that she had asked me to move my cart. People like that have no place in my world.

Give 'em hell right back, Pat!

  16. Rude people must be very unhappy all the time, that's the only reason I can think of for a person to act that way. What ever happend to please, thank you and excuse me?

  17. I COMPLETELY agree. The world would be a much better place for ALL OF US if we could all maintain some manners. Of course, I lose my patience with stupid people too...

  19. I work in customer service, so I take needless abuse like this all day. Having been raised in more civil decades, I am appalled at the way bad behavior has become the accepted norm. Look at all the "reality" shows on TV. We have come to regard cruel people behaving aggressively and being out of control as entertaining, even cool.

  20. I know, seems to be an epidemic. Most of the time I can difuse rude customers by apologizing..... for what, I don't know, but I just say I am so sorry. I have to take it from people when I am on the receiving side of the counter, but lately it has been happening when I am on the other side and .... I am mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take it anymore! Not really, I usually start laughing at them.
