May those who love us love us
And those who don't love us
May God turn their hearts,
And if He doesn't turn their hearts,
May He turn their ankles,
So we'll know them by their limping.
- Irish Prayer
Happy St. Patrick's Day Everyone! I don't know what it is about this day, but everyone seems to have a little bit of Irish in them. It just makes me smile to see the number of people who will wear green today. I always wear green in remembrance and honor of my Irish mother, Margaret. I always dressed my kids in green when they were growing up. In fact, I still call them the night before St. Patrick's Day and remind them to wear green for Grandma.
Do you eat corn beef on this day? I be sure to do so either by cooking it or eating it in a restaurant. When my mom was still alive, I'd bring her a corn beef dinner. She sure enjoyed it!
Tonight we're getting together with a few friends and eating together. Three of us women all bought corn beef so we're sharing our dinner before going to the St. Patrick's Day Dance.
Last Saturday was the St. Patrick's Day Parade in the park. The usuals were there like this old, old horse.
The turtles belong to the kids on the horse and walking the horse.
The Kitchen Band is a crowd favorite.
I call this woman the "Green Queen". I have no idea who she is and what she is supposed to be, but she sure was interesting looking.
Even more interesting was the "Drag Queen" (riding) and his lady friend (walking).
Next up were the cowboys. The whole "getup" was cute, from the tall, ten-gallon hats to the "horses" that they rode.
They were followed by the stagecoach filled with C. Alice Riders. (Cialis - get it?)
The "Pick-Up" girl followed the "horses" and picked up their "poop". See the two blocks off to the side?
Then came the covered wagon.
But the best part of the parade, in MY OPINION, was when my studmuffin marched by with the Val Vista Lawn Chair Drill Team.
Left, right, left!
Attention!
Hand on Chair!
Present the chair.
Raise the chair.
Over your head.
Sit down.
Click the video below and watch what a bunch of old men can do with lawn chairs.
Two Irishmen, Patrick Murphy and Shawn O'Brian grew up together and were lifelong friends. But alas, Patrick developed cancer, and was dying. While on his deathbed,Patrick called to his buddy, Shawn, "O'Brian, come 'ere. I 'ave a request for ye." Shawn walked to his friend's bedside and kneels.
"Shawny ole boy, we've been friends all our lives, and now I'm leaving 'ere. I 'ave one last request fir ye to do."
O'Brian burst into tears, "Anything Patrick, anything ye wish. It's done."
"Well, under me bed is a box containing a bottle of the finest whiskey in all of Ireland. Bottled the year I was born it was. After I die, and they plant me in the ground, I want you to pour that fine whiskey over me grave so it might soak into me bones and I'll be able to enjoy it for all eternity."
O'Brian was overcome by the beauty and in the true Irish spirit of his friend's request, he asked, "Aye, tis a fine thing you ask of me, and I will pour the whiskey. But, might I strain it through me kidneys first?"
Great Pictures, looks like you had a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteyour parade is amazing! clap clap...wish i could have been there...happy st patty's!
ReplyDeleteThat parade is better than any Macy's or Rose bowl parade. What a bunch of looney funny paraders. My kind of people. The 'floats' are hilarious and the 'lawn (chair) boys deserve an award for their performance. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteAnd Bless ye, Pat, for the fine laugh today!

ReplyDeletey'all have so much fun, I'm not sure it is legal;) lol
ReplyDeleteThat was a lot of fun and I wasn't even there. Thanks Pat!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to travel like those tortoises. How great is that, I mean granted its a little cramped. But I really like to be taken place. Just drive me. Put me in a golf cart, wagon, sled, or something, just take me. Don't make me do the thinking. And for god sakes keep those folding chairs away from me. I have never had a good experience with a folding chair. They are like death traps that somehow became popular in the 50s and never went out of style. Damn thing aren't safe.
ReplyDeleteWow...those turtles are HUGE! I love the lawn chair guys...that's hilarious! What a great time!
ReplyDeletePat, you find the best events. The lawn chair guys have got to be one of the best drill teams ever.
ReplyDeleteWhat a riot! I loved the parade and the lawn chair drill team cracked me up! You really know how to have fun...thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSunny :)
How long did the lawn chair team practice their routine? They were good!Love the "uniforms", too. I will have to show this to some of my regulars. We may need some ideas for our 4th of July parade. You guys always seem to be having such a good time and you are right there in the thick of it!
ReplyDeleteMy mother's family imigrated from Ireland and I have enjoyed your post. The drill team is a clever bunch!!
