Sunday Bridges - Red Covered Bridge
This beautiful red covered bridge was built in 1863 and was registered in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on April 23, 1975. The bridge is 149 feet long and spans Big Bureau Creek just north of Princeton, Illinois. It is one of five remaining covered bridges in Illinois (another one is in Princeton, too!) and is still open to traffic.
I love the sign that hangs over the top of the bridge from days of yore.

Great photo!!! And I love the sign over the top!!
ReplyDeleteI wish our bridges were like this. It reminds me of the film Bridges of Madison County.
ReplyDeleteAnother charming covered bridge. Lots of these have been posted lately and I like them a lot. I just haven't yet learned why they were ever built that way.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful picture. I love covered bridges and this one is well taken care of.

Love covered bridges too and these are wonderful examples. I'm happy they're still around. The saying really dates it. Love that.

That sign is maybe what has helped to keep the bridge in good condition over the years!
ReplyDeleteI adore covered bridges...Have you ever been to Maddison county? Or anywhere near Turkey run state park, they boast a covered bridge or two....beautiful ;)

It sure is a beauty. It looks like someone is taking very good care of it.
ReplyDeleteOnce again you have unknowingly shared something I love...covered bridges.
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice covered bridge! The Buttonwood Covered Bridge is on a country road. US 15 is close by, as the bridge is just off the one exit.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful bridge. These covered ones are a rarity!
ReplyDeleteNice bridge. I wonder who policed the number of animals and the speed at which they crossed!
ReplyDeleteGreat covered bridge Pat. There are several around here in Oregon, but they're sorta' drab compared to your beautiful red one. I still love them though.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great sign.
Dang, and me with 13 head of cattle that like to trot.
ReplyDeleteThe Bridge from Madison County! I so love bridges! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great bridge! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love covered bridges, I used to see them often when I lived in GA. This red one is gorgeous and the sign is so cool.
ReplyDeleteSeems odd to see a snow photo posted by you! =) This is a beautiful bridge. Of all the covered bridges I've seen in Indiana, I've never noticed a sign quite like the one on your bridge. Now I'll be paying closer attention the next time we're in that territory again.
