Today I am turning the speed limit.
This seems so unbelievable to me. Is this true? Let me check my birth certificate. (receding footsteps......clomp, Clomp, CLOMP)
Yep. Looks like it's true. Born October 11, 1955. Hey, will you look at that! Born in '55 and turning 55. What a co-inky-dink! That oughta account for something, right?
It just seems like yesterday that I was 40 years old. Then I woke up today and BAM! I'm 55! What the hell just happened? My parents seemed old when they were this age. How come I'm not? Or at least I don't perceive myself to be old.
Is it because I married an older man, so I'll always be younger than Jim? Or is it because my twin sister, Pam, and I are the youngest out of the six kids in our family?
Jim signed me up for AARP (Association for the Advancement of Retired Persons) when I turned 50. I was so pissed off that I didn't talk to him for a week!
When my Dad turned 70, he told Pam (who was 30 at the time), "I may look old on the outside, but on inside, I still feel like I'm 21. You never lose that feeling that you're young. You may not understand that now, kid, but you will when you get older."
NOW I understand Dad.
Although I may have more aches and pains, I still want to blast my music and drive fast with the windows down, hang my head out the window, chew bubble gum, ride a bike, dance, tell naughty jokes, get drunk once in awhile, kick my feet through the fallen leaves, jump in puddles, gaze at the stars, build sand castles, ride on the back of a motorcycle, swing on a tire swing, jump on a bed, and maybe, just maybe smoke my first joint.
So I may be turning the speed limit today, but maybe the sign should look more like this:
So happy birthday to my twin, Pam!
Pat (left), Pam (right), 5 years old |
Pam (left), Pat (right) |
And to our brother, Bob, who had the privilege of receiving twins for his second birthday!
Happy 57th Birthday, Bob! |
And as for me, this party girl is going to stay forever young. (hopefully!)

Happy Birthday to you and your sister!
How crazy that you all 3 have the same birthday!
Never ever "grow up".
My husband had his 55 and born in '55 this year! Back in April. Another crazy! :)
I'll be the big 55 next year. There IS something about it, knowing on the other side of 55 it's downhill to 60. But hey, Even John Lennon would be 70 now. So we are really youngsters, and still hip.
Love the picture of you dancing, getting down!
I clicked submit too fast.
Love the new template, gawgeous.
And by the way, Happy Birthday! :D
Have a great 55th! Damn, I'm 11 years older than you are!
Triple birthdays! Your Mom did that on purpose where she only had to make one cake.
Hope this is the best birthday ever and you have a million more!
PAT!!!!! Happiest of Birthday's to you!!!!!!! (and to your bro & sis!)
I just turned 43 a couple of weeks ago... and it seems to go by faster & faster, but shoot, like you say... it beats the alternative! I know what you mean... I often feel/act younger than my stated age, and I'll look at people & think they're older than me, then turn out to be younger! You look great anyhow! I have 2 great friends- both in their 50's & I can't keep up with them anyhow. :)
Have a wonderful day & 55th year- Yahooooooo!
:)
ha ha happy birthday! i hope you all have a wonderful day! and i like your dads outlook!
Wow! Happy Birthday Pat (and Pam)!!! Hope it's a GREAT one!!
=-)
It's so weird how our body ages, but our mind stays the same. I look into the face of my 98-year old mother in law and think - she is just a young girl in there!
Happy birthday to you both!
WOW! So many birthdays! Well, happy day to each and every one of you - and may the coming year bring you all much happiness. :o)
Happy Birthday dear ladies!
Kisses!!
Betty
Wow! Happy birthday to the whole lot of you! Hope you've had a fantastic day!
Oh Wow! Happy Birthday Days all around!
You are so right, I still feel like I'm 21.
Have a great Birthday Pat (and Pam & Bob)
That last photo is a kick Pat!
You rock girlfriend.
Have a Great Day, I am however a little scared by the freak dancing.
Happy, happy birthday! My hubs birthday was yesterday. Great people were born in October.
And I feel the same way. I'm in my 40's, but I swear I feel 25 because it was just yesterday that I was 25. I'm always surprised when my girls talk about someone my age as old. I'll probably be just like your dad.
I hope your day was wonderful.
Oh HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAT AND PAM!!! I am so in agreement with you!!! I am 63, but still feel young inside (except when I first get up and try to walk)...I just get shocked with I pass by a mirror, because I feel so much better than I look!
Kick up your heels girl! 5 is my lucky number, so your age is a double whammy! Have a blast!!
Big hugs to you both...
I hope you have had a fabulous day!
All of us October babies! woohoo! I hope that you had a great birthday!!!
Wow - - three birthdays on one day! When you were growing up, did you ever think this was the way all families did kids' birthdays? When my husband turned fifty-five, we called it double nickel and had an open house at the church library. We asked people to bring double nickels so we could buy a book in his honor - - - - or have I told you that already? HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Friend - - - You still have 65 minutes to celebrate!
:::deep breath:::
Now, belting out my own personal birthday song,
Put another wrinkle in your birthday suit!!!
And now, it's over. Because the fat lady has sung.
happy birthday to all! bet it was fun celebrating when you guys were younger!! wishing you many more wonderful years ahead; we are only as young as we feel no matter what the age might be!
betty
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all three of you! CHEERS! *clink* Move over, though, cuz I'm claiming that speed limit number for mine next month. I think I'll start resting up now...
Go, Judy, it's your birthday! Hey, it really IS your birthday! Happy birthday! I'm all for staying young forever. I don't think it'll be hard as I am about 20 on the inside. Well, maybe more like 30. It's fun reading about your perspective and hearing you say 40 just seemed like yesterday. If your life has gone by fast, that is probably a good sign!
HAPPY HAPPY BDAY my friend! Hope it was as wonderful a dasy as you are :)
big hugs
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! You are a rockin' (and I don't mean rocking chair) 55-year-old.
Happy Birthday, Pat. Love that Jim signed you up for the AARP... are your speaking to him yet? Keep smiling.
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday dear Pat,
Happy birthday to you!!!!!
(I think it's better to read me singing than to actually hear me singing!!!!!!)
Happy Birthday, Pat. I turned 65 this summer and it's been really painless. Our age is just a number and I realize when I don't think it I do not feel it.
Sounds like you are in a great place in life. What could be better than travel in this great county and seeing all the beauty we have in the US.
Be well and keep truckin' - Blessings, Barb
Rock on, girl! I learned for the first time that you had a twin! Happy Belated birthday! :)
